Provide a service for patients requiring medical attention from 6.30pm to 8am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. This will be staffed by doctors and nurses and will integrate with existing services such as A+E, ambulance service and District Nurses.

Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Nurses

The practice nurses provide general nursing services such as dressings and wound care, cervical smears, contraception, HRT checks, BP checks, ear syringing and ECG recording. The practice nurses are also involved in Chronic Disease Management such as Diabetes, Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease and Chronic Respiratory Disease. They perform elderly health checks and well person checks and give specific advice on health promotion such as smoking, diet and exercise. They give travel advice and undertake travel immunisations.

Practice Management

The Practice Manager, Sandy Pearson is responsible for the day to day running of the practice. She will be pleased to help you with any questions you may have concerning administration or non-medical aspects of your health care. The Practice Manager is the person to speak to should you have complaints or suggestions for the improvement of the practice and can be contacted at the surgery.If the Practice Manager is unavailable you can contact the Deputy Practice Manager Kim Hesketh.

Reception

The staff at Dalton Square are here to help you. They have a difficult and busy job to do, so please be patient. When telephoning the surgery the reception staff may ask for a few details and have been trained to make these enquiries so they can help you in the most appropriate way.

The medical secretaries are the people who are here to deal with any of your referalls to the hospital and can be contacted at the practice if you need any help with your hospital appointments.

Pharmacists

Mike Cryan is our prescribing support pharmacist he is here to help the practice and its patients to manage their use of medicines safely and effectively. He works alongside your doctor and can be seen as part of your healthcare.

Community Midwives

The midwives are involved in the ante-natal and immediate post-natal care of mothers and their babies. They run two clinics a week at the surgery on a Monday and Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3pm and can also be contacted at the maternity unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on 65944.

Community Nurses

District Nurses provide general nursing care to patients in the community who are housebound. In addition they run clinics for procedures such as leg ulcer assessment, dressings and suture removal. They liase closely with the doctors and practice nurse team. Clinics are by appointment only and can be made by telephoning 01524 519575 Monday to Friday 8.00am - 5.00pm.

Long Term Conditions Team

The Long Term Conditions Team are experienced nurses, including a Community Matron and Community Staff Nurses, who work with people that have severe long term mental health conditions.Visiting people at home and assessing physical,mental and social needs. LTC Nurses offer advice and support which aims to improve people's lives and the management of their conditions.

Health Visitors

Health Visitors work closely with families with young children. They give advice to expectant mothers, parents of young children and the elderly. They are involved in health education, immunisation and developmental assessments of children. Appointments for hearing tests and childhood assessments can be made through the health visitor.
A weekly clinic is held on a Wednesday afternoon.

Counsellors

A counselling service is available by referral from your doctor

Attached Staff

The Community Mental Health Team is there to take care of any mental health needs you may have. They are based at St Leonard Gate House. Access to the team is usually via referral from your GP.

A dietician is available. Please contact the surgery for more information.
